So this was Pieter's and my last Christmas as just a married couple. Next year, we'll be Parents. I have to admit, I still have moments where I look at myself in the mirror and say to myself "You're gonna be someone's mommy." And then I promptly freak out.
What are they doing letting people my age have babies?! Don't they know how fragile they are? How small? They get sick, they get skin rashes, they cry, they poop, they spit up, they can't regulate their body temperature all that well, they can't feed themselves, they are wholy dependant on the Parents. And that's gonna be Pieter and me. YIKES!
But other than that, things are going well. I survived Christmas Eve at Waterstone's (which was manic!) and after we went off to the In Laws by train (so much nicer than the coach). Christmas with them is so different to what I'm used to. It was just Pieter, me, FIL and MIL. That's it. I'm used to about 15-20 people over for Christmas lunch and it was just so quiet with the four of us. Not that it was bad. Pieter and I had a wonderful time and always love seeing them. I hear horror stories from other people about their in laws and I feel so blessed to have the ones I do. But Christmas was always one of my favorite times of year BCZ it was noisy and filled with family, and now it's not. I suppose that it's bcz this Christmas had me thinking a lot of the traditions I grew up with and what I want to pass down to my child so it really hit me this year.
So my little sea monkey has a weewee. We had the scan on Friday; Dr says everything's good, baby is a good size and everything measures normal.
You know, I hadn't realized how certain I thought I was carrying a girl until the Dr told me it was a boy LOL. I must admit now that I know it's a boy, I am so nervous! I have no idea what I'll do with a boy! I mean, I just don't understand the male psyche enough. Of course the Hubs is pleased bcz he's looking forward to doing all the father-son thing like fishing and playing sports and such, but I just can't relate at the moment.
I have however started reading 2 books. The first is Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson and the second is Wild At Heart by John Eldridge. The former was read by my sister-in-law when she was pregnant with my nephew Michael and she took much to heart from this, and the second was read by the Hubs and he has been on me to read it since we first married bcz it really resonated with him and he thinks pretty much everyone should read it lol. Now, I'm not much for reading self-help stuff but I'm getting pretty into them so that's good lol. I was needing something to break up the intensity of the Cross-Stitch series by Diana Gabaldon that I am reading now as well. I am finally on the last book (last book written so far that is, there is said to be 1-2 more in the making) and I have been getting a little Jamie and Claire overload hahaha. But it's still a great read!
I think the main reason why I am so nervous about having a boy is the fact that the main experience I have had with little boys is Michael my nephew and he was INTENSE! He has much improved now and is LOVING school (he's 3 1/2) but those first few years, he was an absolute terror. And that has made me hesitate. However, I must remind myself as well that how one child is, another may not be. Both the Hubs and I were quite chilled as children and so there is hope for that. And in Michael's defense, he has gotten so much better and I always knew that he would. As he grows, he understands more how his actions and reactions affect other people and I knew that it was going to take time and mental development for him to get to this point. Now, we've had several encounters where he's been a sweetheart and has behaved himself quite well and I say kudos to his parents bcz the Hubs and I both agreed that if we had a child like him, we may not have handled it with nearly the same amount of grace and tolerance as they did. Michael is very lucky to have been born to the parents he has.

In other news, we saw The Day The Earth Stood Still today. Can everyone say "Wha....?" I hadn't seen much about the movie before hand so I didn't realize it was going to be quite so sci-fi. But I did think Keanu Reeves played an unemotional alien like a natural LOL, oh and I hated Jaden Smith's character. Stupid kid.

I can't believe how quickly Christmas is coming up! It's only a week and a half away people!!!! I have already missed the cut off date for sending things to the States so I am not worrying greatly about my family's gifts and such now but I am feeling the pressure to get ALL of my shopping done asap. I have pretty much finished only I wanted to get Karen the Housemate something else and I have no idea what.... oh well, I'm sure I'll find SOMETHING.
Work is really manic as well. We've not been making budget but we haven't been doing too shabby, with a pretty good conversion rate these last couple of days. Of course, our heater unit is broken so that puts a cramp in our style. We've even had a couple of customers complain about how cold it was so we're hoping that Head Office will get their asses into gear and get it fixed soon.
So i just had a good one if you couldn't tell. Saturday I ran an errand in the morning, went to a movie with the Hubs in the afternoon and in the evening we hit the Bust Magazine Christmas Craftacular fair. It was AWESOME and it got me so inspired to get crafty. I bought 2 brooches (one for me and one for Sarah J) and a sock creature for our little creature-in-the-making. I'll post pics later but I can't find my camera at the moment :0(
What do you see yourself doing on this day next year?
Submitted by Beautifully Broken.
This day next year, I can see myself playing with the baby, getting all excited over it's first Christmas, listening to Christmas music really loud, all that good stuff.
At home or in the theater: What's the last great movie you watched?
The Hubs and I saw a movie last night that was actually pretty good. Surprisingly so. It was My Best Friend's Girl.
I'm not actually a Dane Cook fan at all. I think he swears way too much and that his humor is crude, which I hate. I don't watch movies like College Road Trip or American Pie or anything like that. In fact, if Jason Biggs is in it, I steer clear. But we went to the theatre and it was the only thing on so we decided to see it. And having prepared myself for swearing and some crudeness, I actually enjoyed it.What irritated you today?
1. That the package I went to pick up from the post office was not actually AT the post office, or the other package pick-up place I was sent to.... so now I have to contact the post office with my tracking number to find out WHERE THE HELL IS MY PACKAGE!!!!
2. That dear hubs cancelled going out with me to a movie to have drinks with his work buddies. Granted, he cancelled with them 3 times before but he was supposed to make that up to them last Tues....
3. That I went all the way into central London to the Skechers shop in Oxford Street only to find that they don't supply women's shoes in anything larger than a 7 and I wear 8s.
4. That I was planning to buy 2 silver drawer sets to act as nightstands only to find the only shop that has them, in fact does NOT.
5. That this baby now seems to take delight in kicking my bladder every 5 minutes, which sends me into a panic and I have to self assess to make sure I didn't wet myself. Whoever said Pregnancy is a beautiful and natural time in a woman's life clearly didn't have a uterus.
How is it that Friends reruns never get old? Even if they're dated? Chandler's jokes never get old, Pheobe's quirks are always fresh and Ross is always.... well, Ross.
Anyways... I've finally gotten the hang of knitting! Yay for me! While I was visiting my mother in law, I just got the urge to knit so I had her sit me down and show me and it clicked! But I am still way too new to try any sort of shaping or anything like that. Sigh. But I've made a few nice potholders! Hah!
Pieter and I went to visit my folks in September for a much needed vacation and it was great! The weather was hot and lovely (September can be one of the hottest months of the year in California) and it was so nice to just chill with friends and family. I got to see my pregnant cousin Davona (she's due in January but her doc thinks she'll deliver before Christmas bcz her first little boy was early as well) and it just made me realize how many pregnant women there are out there! There's cousin Davona, friend Simone (she actually just delivered a few days ago, a little girl named Annabelle), friend Marisa, friend Berna... it's like a mini baby boom. And this happened 2 years ago when Berna, Michelle, Marlin, Andonia and LeeAnn were all pregnant around the same time. It's like there's cycles. Weird o.O
In other news, Karen, the House Mate, is engaged! Yay for her! They've set the date for 21st of March in South Africa (so we, unfortunately, won't be going since I won't be able to fly then). It looks like they'll be living in London though, so that's cool! However all this means is that we'll all be moving out of our lovely little house and going our seperate ways, *sniff*. Pieter and I are talking about moving closer to his folks in Kent but what with the financial situation the way it is, we'll just have to see if any doors open up over there. We'd much prefer to move with a confirmed job offer for Pieter, naturally.
So it looks like 2009 is going to be a big year in this household.

So I'm going to start importing my blog entries to Facebook for my friends there to read.
I am ashamed that my last entry was January. I'M SOOOOO SORRY!!! I'll do better, I swear!
So what's new with me? Work is going great, as usual. Did I ever tell that my temporary manager from Christmas became our permanent manager? Well she did. And I have to admit I'm starting to like her a lot more now. I think it was a bit of the stress from Christmas that was making me irritated with anyone new. LOL.
I got a Nintendo DS Lite! I love it! A black one that is sleek and shiny. I love the shine-eeze.
My mom is currently over here, visiting. I hate to say it, but I'm counting down the days til she leaves. I love my mom, don't get me wrong, but we just work better with distance between us. When we are interacting with each other day after day, we get on each other's nerves.
